Calico Dorsey (book for children)

When the author contacted me about the possibility of reviewing a children's book, I thought "sure why not, its based in a mining related setting". What I was surprised to discover was that the tale of Dorsey the mail dog was based on a true story from the real town of Calico, California during the mining boom of the late 1800's. So in addition to reading a great story with excellent illustrations, I actually learned something as well!

This is a delightful book and I recommend it to anyone with children and an interest in mining history, history of the west, or even just a love of dogs. Recommended for children 4-8 years old. Note the last photo below is from the authors notes and is a historical photo of the real Dorsey the mail dog.
