Fox was noted for its alluvial gold dredging operations during the late 1920's to late 1950's. One of the historic gold dredges (Dredge No. 8) constructed for use at Fox and contiguous streams has been preserved and is open as an interpretive museum dedicated to regional gold mining history cf: http://www.golddredgeno8.com/.
